5.3 quake Banda Sea, Timor-Leste, 19 Jan 2021 1:01 pm (GMT +8)
Timor-Leste was shaken near Delhi, Vera Cruz, Dili, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 only 17 minutes ago, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake hit at a great depth of 434 km beneath the epicenter near Delhi, Vera Cruz, Dili, Timor-Leste, around noon on Tuesday 19 January 2021 at 1:01 pm local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 5.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.6.

Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Likisa (pop. 19,000) located 125 km from the epicenter, Delhi (pop. 150,000) 126 km away, and Maubara (pop. 16,300) 129 km away.
