Just 12 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Hualien City, Hualien, Taiwan. The tremor was recorded early evening on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, at 6:32 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 26 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hualien City (pop. 350,500) located 13 km from the epicenter.
