Moderate 4.2 quake hits near Tacna, Provincia de Tacna, Peru4.2 quake 49 km northeast of Tacna, Peru, Jun 23, 2022 9:29 am (GMT -5)
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Peru near Tacna, Provincia de Tacna, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022, at 9:29 am local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 151 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Ataspaca (pop. 76, 2 km away), Tarata (pop. 3,100, 32 km away), Chipispaya (pop. 1,900, 42 km away), Tacna (pop. 280,100, 49 km away), Chuquitira (pop. 4,200, 51 km away), Quilahuani (pop. 3,200, 60 km away), Totoral (pop. 2,000, 61 km away), Candarave (pop. 3,400, 63 km away), and Ilabaya (pop. 9,500, 74 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
